Electronic cigarettes closely resemble the real thing. You're at your favorite restaurant, enjoying a meal. A diner at the next table is puffing on a cigarette, letting out a cloud of smoke. Because smoking isn't allowed in the restaurant, you're thinking about asking the smoker to put the cigarette out. But before you protest, consider this: Your neighbor may not be smoking at all. Electronic cigarettes, also known as smokeless cigarettes, e-cigarettes, or e-cigs, are an alternative method of consuming nicotine, the addictive chemical found in tobacco. Manufacturers often design e-cigarettes to look like regular cigarettes, but they contain no tobacco and don't require a match -- or any flame at all. There's no fire, no ash and no smoky smell. E-cigarettes do not contain all of the harmful chemicals associated with smoking tobacco cigarettes, such as carbon monoxide and tar. Manufacturers and satisfied customers say the e-cigarette is a healthier alternative to tobacco cigarettes, which cause millions of deaths every year.|On Friday, November 5, far-right groups in Ukraine’s capital city of Kyiv are leading a "crusade" against nightclubs that they are accusing of selling drugs in-house. Fears are mounting that hundreds could turn out to the march, despite little evidence of wrongdoing by venues in the city, and that the "crusade" could escalate into raids and violence. The accusations were made by a member of the far-right Telegram group Catharsis, described as a ‘Union Of Cultural Conservatives’, who posted this week that clubs such as Closer, HVLV, and ? (K-41) “have been selling drugs for years without hiding”. The Telegram group has around 23,700 members. The same member called for a “crusade” against such clubs this Friday in Kyiv’s club district of Podil, describing the nightclubs as “brothels”. An English translation of the post reads: ”We want the dens to cease to exist and Podil to become a clean, European zone, without drugs and the danger they pose. Worries are mounting that police might take the side of far-right factions, particularly after local musician, Dmitry Bugaychuk, was beaten and detained by Kyiv police in May for drug possession. Catharsis used this case as an argument for this Friday’s rally. Closer previously faced drug trafficking charges in 2016 after being accused of selling. Distributing drugs through the nightclub by police. Nothing came of the charges. The outrigger array is composed of 345 tanks filled with purified water. Each tank is 1.55 m in diameter and 1.65 m in height and they are separated with distance between 12 to 18 m. They are equipped by a single Hamamatsu R5912 8” photomulitplier tube (PMT) upward facing and anchored at the bottom of the tank. In order to limit the cable length between tanks and the readout electronics, the array is divided into 5 sections, named with letters from A to E (see Fig 1) containing 69 tanks each. The equipment needed to run and acquire the data for each section is centralised into nodes located in the middle of each section. The deployment of the outrigger array happened between September 2017. September 2018 (the timeline can be seen in Figure 1). The array has been continuously taking data since then. Analogue signals from the PMTs are sent through RG-59 cables to the node. This signal is separated from the HV that powers the PMT by a pick-off module.|We're used to thinking about poverty as a measure of income: poor people make very little money, and as a result, they're unable to afford to buy the basics like food, housing, and health care. The U.S. Census Bureau decides each year what the income threshold is going to be to define the federal poverty line; in 2016, that threshold is around $16,000 per year for a family of two, and a little over $24,000 for a family of four. But is income the only data point we should collect when we're trying to learn about poverty in America? Other countries like Bhutan, Colombia, Chile, Malaysia and Mexico all measure poverty with a multidimensional index - Mexico, for instance, looks at income alongside education, housing, health, social cohesion, and access to food. But every country is different, and a multidimensional poverty index should look different in a country where living in a house without electricity, a permanent floor or sanitation facilities isn't all that uncommon, compared to the United States, where many people in poverty have those things that in other places might be considered luxuries. coronavirus death toll
